Counselling & Psychotherapy

A skilled and experienced high-quality therapist offering integrity, expertise, and authenticity

WHAT IS COUNSELLING?
Freud said “being honest with oneself is a good exercise” so talking and expressing and meeting yourself in therapy could be transformative!

Person-to-person: The therapeutic relationship is the tool for transformation: being really heard by me can give freedom to talk about things that could otherwise remain hindered.

Face-to-Face: I only ever work face-to-face: your body will speak more than your mouth will; and there’s power in actually being together, having real contact.

Freeing creativity: Helpful as talking is, creative materials can express what can sometimes be difficult to say.  You're always welcome to use crayons & colouring pencils, play-dough, figures, matryoshka, masks, and a soft toy in our work.

PRACTICALITIES
To keep you and your material safe I set out a contract at the start of our time to keep the work manageable, contained.

Frequency: We’d have sessions at a regularity that meets your needs, and can keep reviewing this if your needs change.

FeesI charge  £50 per 50-minute session as a simple flat fee: £1/minute is a quality investment of your time and money.

Supervision: I have a clinical supervisor who oversees my work monthly to ensure you have the best possible service from me.

Confidentiality: I'll keep everything said in therapy in confidence between you and me, with a very few exceptions I'm not allowed to, which I’ll outline in our first session.

Qualifications: I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling as well as A. Level Food & Nutrition: diet has an enormous impact on wellbeing and I can bring this into our work together.

Professional Registration: I’m a member of Association of Christians in Counselling and Linked Professions, am bound by its Ethics and Practice, working with clients of no/any faith.  I also hold indemnity insurance.

SPECIALISMS
I'm well trained and experienced to work with anything you might want to explore, and also have greater experience than other counsellors in the following themes:

Addiction: I’ve worked as a counsellor and middle manager in NHS and charity sector drug & alcohol services, both mainstream and 12-step.  I also have extensive experience counselling clients with a range of sexual compulsions, and am a qualified smoking cessation practitioner.

Men: The vast majority of counsellors are women, and many of my former clients have found that there's been something significant and liberating about speaking man-to-man.

LGBT+: I've worked with many LGBT+ clients around a range of themes surrounding their sexual orientation & gender identity, and have been employed by an LGBT+ charity in the past: for some, this is an important aspect of identification.

Neurodivergence: I've worked as a Special Educational Needs teacher and can adapt how I work for the needs of clients with ADHD or Autism, for whom mainstream therapy can be difficult.

MY THERAPY MODEL

I’m an integrative therapist so I smoothly incorporate a few established models into my counselling.  The foundation of my training was psychodynamic because I believe most current difficulties have their beginnings in the earliest years.
